ECSC SUNSETS

Commodore June 2021

The 2021 season is off to a fast start with a lot more to come. We have already had a successful Mayor’s Cup regatta, Wednesday racing, Sunday honors racing, two social events and Junior Sailing Camp. It’s good to see old friends and meet new members both on land and on the water. Personally, I am thrilled to be more socially involved, last year did not work well for my personality type. I know many of us may have fallen into socially withdrawn habits and may not be as outgoing as we used to be due to COVID-19. So please share a smile, a wave and a warm greeting to our fellow sailors. Our club has long been known as a friendly haven for our members so let’s continue that tradition. Also, if you haven’t seen someone this year please grab the directory and give them a call. Additionally, remember that your volunteer board members and those working on their behalf are doing their very best. If you have suggestions, please volunteer to help make things better. If the food at an event doesn’t come as quickly as you would like, remember that we always have lines, and we don’t always have exactly what you want to eat. We are all ready to have our events back the way they used to be. One last request is to put large items in the dumpster and not in the trash cans as just a few boxes will fill the entire can and makes a huge mess that attracts raccoons. Cheers, Chuck Goff Commodore

Social June 2021

Thank you to those who helped make our the Labor Day event a great success! Although there was a short wait for your food, Chef TLC and his team did a great job serving 86 “cook to order meals” in such a short time! Our next event is Father’s Day. This event will be hosted on June 20th from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Tony Rice and Erich Rose are looking forward to cooking up the Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, and Biscuits and Gravy! We will NOT have our typical pitch in for sides, however if you wish to bring a side dish to share with your own group, you may do so. We are seeking 3 vaccinated volunteers to assist in serving. We are also looking for a host/hostess for the event. Remember, you can earn work credits for volunteering to assist. There is no cost to this event, however we are asking for an RSVP so we know how much food to purchase. Please RSVP to Vickie Greenough 317-847-7400 (text or call) by June 15th. Harbormaster June 2021

Hello Eagle Creekers, hope everyone is enjoying the season so far. Many may have noticed that we have removed the playground equipment to make way for the new sailboat parking lot. The new playground equipment will be placed up by the upper shelter. At this time in the season, I need every boat with a wet slip in the water and trailers up top to make this project possible. The boats along Hobie Row (North side of Beach road) will be moved to the incoming road or other spots to clear the area for dump trucks and large equipment doing this work . Our long-time friend and contractor Bill Williams will be doing this work…please be respectful. At certain times, I will be moving certain boats from alongside this work area to make this work safe to all boats. Please put your current stickers onto your boat and trailer or you will be fined $100 until the stickers are on your boat and trailer. This means all of your boats, canoes, and kayaks. This fine will be added to your membership fee and if not paid, you will could your membership. Dennis Robertson, the other half of the Harbormaster department, and I are trying to make this club like a real marina. We are not a boat storage facility for unused boats. Many of you may know we have never had this many members ever - yet we still get 20 plus members every year. We still have about 15 members waiting for slips. Please do not overuse the 48hr docks. Members with multiple boats will soon be paying an extra storage fee for multiple boats as we are basically out of room on the water and on land. If anyone is willing to sublease their slip this year, please contact Dennis, Perry Cameron (membership chair), or me. If you do not use your slip for a whole year, you stand the chance of losing that slip. More to come, Kenny Chapman

Derelict Boats & Trailers.

From the Club Secretary:

I want to draw your attention, please, to the new Derelict Boat & Trailer policy that was approved by the Board last Tuesday and is now included in the Club's General Rules. If you keep your boat and trailer in good condition, then you have no worries. If you are one of the few members who pretty much treats their boat like junk and is non-responsive to the Harbormaster Committee to clean up your mess, then the Club is going to take action and it could cost you $100 per month. Why? For many years the Harbormaster Committee has put an excessive amount of time into cleaning up the mess (abandoned boats) left by others, and this is going to stop! We value those members who take care of their property at ECSC. For those who do not respect our club, you need to get your act together, or consider taking your neglected boat and trailer elsewhere. Remember, the club is not your mother and the days of tolerating junked-up boats and trailers at ECSC is coming to an end.

You have been notified.

Thank you,
Rich Fox

Racing June 2021

Dear Racers, The racing season is well off to a good start. We have had great participation and competition so far. Also, some of the creative courses we've set so far has enhanced the variety and the enjoyment of the racing experience. We would like to thank the numerous volunteers that have helped new members and established members get their boats up and running this Spring. Also, we would like to thank all those that have helped put on a successful Mayor’s Cup Regatta. There were many that stepped up to help with the breakfast and brunch that was provided to the racers during the two-day event. Geoff Endris and Tom Moore worked some miracles in getting two races off in very light wind conditions both days. Tom Newgent and Nick Mates put in long hours doing a somewhat successful “Wind Dance” and scouting the reservoir for any signs of useable wind. Bruce Berner and Ethel Morgan pulled out a great Mayor’s Cup win in a return of the J22 fleet as the largest competing fleet. Another highlight of the event was the awarding of the “Captain Crunch” cereal to the two boats that enjoyed a “Close Encounter” at the leeward mark. The regatta was a reminder that the most fun in racing comes from spending time with great people in an activity that we all love. Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon racing continues through the Summer. The next racing regatta is on Saturday, July 17th, for the ECSC Regatta in association with the ECSC Beach Party. We hope you will join us for some of these events and even consider joining our happy racing family! John Kohne Nancy Goff

Membership June 2021

The summer has started and the club is in full gear now. We currently have 271 active memberships which is a healthy number at this time of year. We have had 9 new memberships since the beginning of January and over the last 10 years we have averaged 20.5 new memberships a year. This means that we are likely to break last year’s all time high of 278 memberships. It is important to keep in mind that in recent years an increasing percentage of our membership core are social memberships which is an excellent option that many long time members have chosen to take in recent years. I would like to extend a warm welcome to David and Brenda Bartle, and Jason and Allison Terry as our newest members to the club. Thanks, Perry Cameron Membership Chair
