Harbormaster – April 2018

It’s time of the year let’s go sailing. The Slip assignments have been completed and are available online.  Just CLICK HERE to access the website. Members should feel free to put your boats in your slip anytime you want. [one_second]I have noticed over the years that many people secure their boats in an improper and potentially dangerous way. The Proper way to secure a boat to the dock is with four lines: a bow line, a stern line, and two spring lines (fore and aft). Also remember, the spring lines should be taut and the Bow and stern lines should have some slack. This will keep your boat from hitting the dock.  Also, please make sure that you secure your boat with the bow pulpit NOT sticking out over the dock.  This allows members to move freely on the docks.  [/one_second] [one_second][/one_second]
With the volume of boats in the club this year we have had several boats that are double parked. If you have parked someone in, please address this early in the season so that we all have access to our boats.  The grounds Committee is looking to do some work in the upper trailer farm, so please don't move your trailer up until after May 1st. If they are able to get the lot work done earlier, they will list that the lot is open on the sign. Also, always be sure to check the conditions in the upper lot as you do not want to get your vehicle stuck in mud.
This spring I will be addressing several boats on the property that belong to club members that have not been cleaned or drained of standing water in several years. These boats will be a priority for me this year. If you know someone that owns one of these boats please let them know that I will be contacting them.
Your club stickers  should be in your possession as of now so please put them on your boat and trailer as soon as possible.

Harbormaster February 2017

Hello Eagle Creekers,

We have a few big jobs ahead of us this Spring and hopefully they can get started at the club opening work-party. Below are three of the majors projects ahead of us.

  1. Re-decking of L dock (which is the 5' wide section leading to D dock).
  2. Expansion of  the trailer parking at the top of the hill to the West and South. 
  3. A  Grounds Committee project concerning dead Ash tree removal. 

Any and all help with these projects will be greatly appreciated and make the club more user friendly.

Anyone with an unmarked dinghy or kayak at the club must remember to put current stickers on your boat. As I mentioned in last months article those unidentifiable boats will be going away this Spring. 

Don't forget, during Winter you need to come out to the club on a regular basis to check on your boat. Many tarps get filled with snow/water or get blown off entirely. It is up to you to protect your property. 

One last thing, when coming out to the club in the Winter I would suggest locking the gate back up as you enter. This will keep unwanted guests from entering the club and shorten your time checking on your boat. Always lock the gate when leaving.

Hello Eagle Creekers,

The first week of December is when we will be counting boats for Winter storage. Please contact myself or Dennis Robertson if you will be removing your boat for the Winter after the first week. Otherwise you will be charged storage fees.

Concerning storage of your boat at our club, it is a very good idea to come out and check your boat especially after a rain or snow to see if your tarp cover is holding up. The Club is not responsible for your boat and it may save you money to check it. Of course, if we as the Harbormasters see any problems we will try to contact the affected member. With that said, if you are at the club and you see any problems with other members boat, please take down their "current" member number and contact one of the Harbormasters.

  The upper trailer lot will likely be expanded this spring. My idea is to expand to the West end and South toward the main road. We will get an estimate for having the old meadow restored to an easily mowed parking area. The trailer parking will be available in April now that the Parks Department has added the trailer storage area to our lease.

Thanks to all the members who assisted in Dock board replacement this year, future dock board replacement should be at a minimum for next year. I do know there are several boards on D dock and on A dock still in need of repair Dennis and I are going to submit a bid to replace all the boards and stringers on L dock this coming Spring. The original construction was very frugal and we have been paying for it as that dock ages. It will be up to the board to allocate club funds for this upgrade and up to our great group of member-volunteers to do the work in one weekend. 

Regarding our Slips and the slip waiting list. We put over twenty boats into slips this year with about fifteen into permanent slips and about five into subleases. Remember to contact the Harbormaster Department before subleasing. Subleases must go through us or you may lose your slip entirely. The reason for this is that there is a "list" and all allocations of slips are based on your seniority (shown by your member number). At this point we have 7 or 8 new members waiting for a slip. If at some point you want a new slip then point that out in your membership document. Slips will be offered to members that are available and you can request what ever you want but we can only offer slips that become available. Timely responses to offers will be accepted, if you don't respond to an offer you may be stuck in the same slip. The club slip list is going to be run like a real marina from now on so if you have any complaints please contact the Harbormaster Department or the Commodore.
